Dermatologists use a number of acne treatments, often considered acne surgery, to reduce the symptoms of acne. Adult acne requires drugs to cure it, but treating acne is possible via drainage and extraction, which is also called acne surgery. Acne surgery reduces the pain associated with cysts and decreases the likelihood of acne scarring.

Rather than squeezing or picking your acne lesions, which can lead to infection, worsening of the acne, and scarring, your dermatologist uses small surgical instruments to open and remove the contents of the pustules, cysts or pimples.
