Bio-Alcamid is a permanent filler (other examples are Radiesse and Artefill) made from 96% water and 4% syntheric polymer (poly-alkyl-imide). Bio-Alcamid is designed to stimulate collagen growth which forms round the filler.
According to the manufacturer, "Bio-Alcamid serves facial lipoatrophy (facial-wasting), a severe and destructive side-effect which can be a result of antiretroviral drugs used in HIV therapy. Injected subcutaneously Bio-Alcamid™ can re-contour the face and restore the area(s) that have been depleted, while simultaneously relieving some of the physiological and psychological effects caused by this debilitation." Bio-Alcamid may be used "off label" for plumping skin, facial folds, and wrinkles
