A nurse practitioner, like a registered nurse, has a Bachelor's of Science degree in nursing. However, unlike registered nurses, nurse practitioners complete an additional Master's of Science in nursing program; most MSN prorams are two years long. They can also diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries, counsel patients, and develop treatment plans.
