I saw a plastic surgeon today who suggested that putting me to sleep (no pain!) and doing a full-face and neck non-fractional treatment with the Sciton laser (erbium) would give me a better and longer-lasting result than a full face and neck fraxel re:pair treatment. He admitted that he has only done two Fraxel re:pair treatments so is working on limited evidence.
The laser price is the same for both although the cost to be put to sleep adds $2500 to the bill over and above the laser cost. I am a 51 year old woman with some limited wrinkling around the eyes and lips. What will give me the best results?

Very well said Dr. Weiner, I couldn't agree more having just returned from The Aesthetic Show in Las Vegas. What happened in Vegas won't stay in Vegas!

My guess is that he is talking about a fully ablative erbium resurfacing. What it boils down to is that the risk of what he is proposing is greater - anesthesia, hypopigmentation, and scarring are much greater than the Fraxel re:pair which is done in the office. Also, the healing time and wound care are much longer with total ablative technology vs fractional ablative technology. If everything goes perfect, and your healing time is not prolonged (less than 2 or 3 weeks), you might get a better result. Total ablation has been around longer than fractional ablative. However, the trend is towards fractional which will give close to comparable results, with less downtime and less risks. All the buzz at meetings and all the laser companies want to market is fractional lasers.

We use the Sciton Erbium MicroLaserPeel for laser resurfacing very frequently for a acne scarring and facial rejuvenation. We are pleased with the consistent, predictable outcomes for our patients (and staff!). The only concern I have is that you were offered anesthesia. This then adds more risk and quite a big expense. All of our patients tolerate this procedure very well with the use of triple compounded numbing cream applied topically. This is always sufficient for the many patients that we treat with the Erbium MicroLaserPeel.
With regards to the Erbium MicroLaserPeel compared to fractionated lasers - in our experience and research, the risks and downtime are similar if one is receiving a fractionated treatment that is not subtherapuetic. As mentioned, workshops and seminars will promote their own preferences and interests. I always appreciate a healthy dose of skepticism. Several experts in the aesthetic laser community express concern over the inflated claims of fractionated technology. There are pros and cons with every modality. Do your research and ask many questions.

There are many other methods to rejuvenate the skin as it matures. This particular method can bring forth complications and certainly will if the body has any ongoing viruses or tendencies towards skin lesions. Research the light pulsing treatments as well as micro dermabrasion and or Obagi methods for a much safer route to skin rejuvenation.

What is Laser Wrinkle Removal?
This treatment is perfect for those looking for a safe, quick procedure to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin.
How does Laser Wrinkle Removal work?
Collagen provides the support network to our skin. As we age, the collagen breaks down causing lines and wrinkles. The laser works by stimulating collagen production. As the new collagen is generated, lines and wrinkles are decreased.
How many treatments does the Laser Wrinkle Removal process require?
Laser skin rejuvenation is a gradual process. Usually patients need 8-10 spaced between 5 weeks.
Does it hurt?
No. Laser Wrinkle Removal is very comfortable and requires no topical anesthetics or other skin preparations. The combination of this cooling method and other key parameters allows for safe and effective treatment.
I hope that I cleared up some questions that some may have about Wrinkle Removal.
