I am having smart lipo one week from Monday. I had my first consultation with the Dr. on Thursday of this week. I was a little skeptical about what it could really do for me. The consultation was fantastic. The Dr. was very patient with all my questions and I felt like he was genuinely interested in what I had to say and wanted to make sure that he had answered all my questions before the consultation ended. He also gave me his phone number and said I should not hesitate to call if I have any questions. The staff in the office were great. The thing that gave me the greatest confidence is the glowing reviews that his staff gave him. I feel very assured that he is concerned that both he and I will be happy with the results. The consultation took almost two hours from when I went into the office. The only reason for the long consult was that is that each member of staff I met with was so thorough in making sure that they had gone over everything with me and that they had answered every one of my questions. This is a big decision for me both financially and emotionally.
I have decided to have my belly, flanks and chest done. I will keep a running update of how what happens during the procedure and will update this site for anyone who may be interested. I am a male of 47 years old. I spent most of my adult life struggling with weight and being very overweight. When I turned 38 I decided to do something about it and over a three year period lost almost 100 pounds. I got myself down to 185 which is a little above where I should be for my height. The problem is that I have been stuck at that weight for four years and no matter how much exercise I do I cant seem to get my belly and flanks into the shape I want them to be. It seems that I still have fat in areas that will not respond. I would never allow myself to be seen in public without a shirt on. I have thought long and hard and finally decided to do something about it. I am not expecting a miracle but I am determined to be in the very best shape I can be for me before I turn 50.
Before going to the appointment I read everything I possible could online and watched all the Utube videos. My impression before I went into the office was that it is a relatively quick and easy procedure and that the recovery period is quite short. I was in for a couple of surprises. First of all to have 3 areas done is going to take five to six hours to lipo. (I was expecting two at the most based on what I read). The next surprise for me is that they explained that the recovery period is going to be longer than I imagined. I need to take a couple of days off work after the procedure. I told them that I had read that people were back at work the very next day. The Director (who was doing my post exam consult) said that she has known people that go back that soon but that in her opinion the expectation is unrealistic. For one thing you cant bathe for 48 hours after and she said I will be feeling pretty gross as the incision sites will ooze a little fluid for a couple of days after they are done. She said that most people hurt too much for a day or two to really feel like they can go back. It might also be because the areas I am having done are fairly extensive.
I was expecting that I would not be able to work out for a couple of weeks. The Director said that I could go back to it but that it is really going to take a couple of months before I can get into my full routine.
The biggest positive surprise for me is that the Dr. feels that he can pretty much get me to the point where I will only have skin on muscle. I was not expecting that that could be the result. I am still not going to get my hopes up because I still can't believe that he can get that much of the fat out. it will be interesting to see. At this point I am really excited to have this procedure. I have listened to the worst case scenarios in terms of recovery and I think the difficulty in the recovery process is going to be worth the result. I hope to post progress photos during the next four months. If anyone out there has advice for me going into this please do email me.
I rated the experience as Excellent as that is what I have experienced so far. I also rated this experience as painfree as I have not had any pain so far... I am not really expecting that this is going to be painfree... I rated the experience as worth it because so far that is what I think. (I guess this site is not really designed for pre-procedure comments as they make these fields mandatory to answer...)

I trust you have already had your procedure so this is probably for those reading who haven't yet gone through with it.
It is great that everyone was so thorough during your consultation. They shared some great insights that are worth repeating.
It is worth taking a couple of days off work. You will need to keep the compression garment on for 48 hours before showering and you will be leaking some tumescent fluid from your "holes". Unless you work from home, you won't feel comfortable being around a lot of people. . .
Guys typically recover slower than women. Abs, flanks, and chest are always the most difficult to recover from.
It is NOT practical to remove ALL of the fat and just be left with "skin on muscle". I would never overpromise something like this. I find it hard to believe that anyone would do the same. It's always best to underpromise and overdeliver. I usually say that we can help get you to 50% of where you want to be. . .then shoot for doing significantly better. I would hate to set someone up for disappointment or unrealistic expectations.
