My derm told me there's no difference between juvederm and restylane.
She said both gave long lasting natural looking results for wrinkle treatment. but googled juvederm and their official site sure makes it sound more effective.
Has anyone tried both (or even one) that can comment on this? miss50

I just had Juvederm filled in my nasal folds on Friday. So far, I've been disappointed. The office did not give me literature on the product nor gave me instrucitons for before or after of what to do/not to do. I have bumps/lumps and it looks like a thread has been threaded in my skin with beads every so often. I'm concerned. Will this go away and will it dissolve and smooth out or will I look like someone strung a necklace of pearls under my skin? The left side was injected with more Juvederm and it's not as bad with the bumps - it's just one thick line and I did bruise moderately on the that side. I'm feeling like I should not have done this procedure at all and I'm not sure if the bumps will go away. If they don't, then what? I'm hoping for the best, but it's been 2 days and I've not seen the bumps do anything but stand out. HELP!!
I had juvederm four days ago to plump my lips and I'm very disappointed.
I've had bad bruising on the right side of my lip and have several bumps on the inside of my lips. Its causing a lumpy and swollen appearance. after four days the bumps have not subsided. Its painful and very uncomfortable.
My doctor did not tell me about the lumps or the bruising but simply prepared me for swelling for two days maximum. I am worried that the bumps won't go away.
I would not do this procedure again.
I am thinking about Juvederm on the lips...Would you recommend it? Did the bumps clear up and look more natural? Thanks in advance
I just had the juvederm done on my lips. They are naturally thin. My friend is an RN and did it for me. I think it's who does the injections that make the differance. my lips look amazing. Fuller and I look younger. I did have a little bump but went away. I am so thriled
Was your work done in New York City. I am looking for a good doctor in NY
I had a friend tried it and looks great. Just dont over doit or do the french lips.
OMG! I am in the same boat as you. I had Juvederm done on Monday to plump my laugh lines out and I now look worse than when I started. I have that string thing too with bumps along it. It looks like someone scratched me directly on my laugh line and has 3 pimple -looking bumps attached it it. I can't even cover it with make-up. On the other side I have a red bruise. I hope this goes away!!!!! I will never try injections like this again. This was my first time and last!!!! Are you trying anything to get rid of the swelling. I bought some arnica gel which is supposed to help with the bruising and swelling. I hope it works!
I just had Juvederm done last night around my nose, lips, chin and laugh lines. I am soooo bruised on my chin, looks like I was punched out!! I also bought Arnica gel, and I sure hope it works, I can't even cover it up with makeup. But I don't have the string thing with bumps, just the bruise. The things we do to fight age.....
I'm so very sorry to hear about your poor experience. I'd recommend either discussing your displeasure with your doctor or even getting the opinion of another plastic surgeon. I must agree with some of the others; I believe the person performing the injection is what determines the outcome more than anything.
I had the Juvederm done on my laugh lines and lips and they came out incredible. Mine was performed by a plastic surgeon (in the office of course). I had VERY little bruising and was able to cover it with make-up the same day it was performed. The slight discoloration only lasted for 2 days. No bumps or swelling.
Get a second opinion and best of luck to you.
One should always make sure that the person doing the injecting is board-certified. Definitely should be a physician who specialises in these procedures. The quality of results are determined by the quality of the person doing it. I have used restyland and juverderm and have never had the bumps. The physicial smoothes out the lumps and bumps before I leave the office. You can also do a bit of 'smoothing' yourself for the first couple of days.
I am scheduled to go for juviderm in my smile lines this week.
Now I am really scared. I am a teacher and have to go to work the next day....that's all I need to do is look HORRIBLE AND SWOLLEN..
Please let me know your thoughts after reading your note I am going to cancel..
I had the same experience a couple of years ago but with Restylne. There is something they can do. I dont know the name of the chemical but it comes in a vial like Juvederm and it is injected into the area of the bead and it dissolves it.
The great thing about Juvederm is that it can be dissolved easily unlike the other fillers. I used to work with a doctor and spent all day assisting him pumping lips up, or smoothing out folds. I have to say after having Restylane injected into my own lips, that it does take more than afew days until you feel normal again. My lips felt all bumpy and hard. I almost started to regret what I had done because i felt they would always feel like that but, thankfully after a couple of weeks i felt like i hadnt had anything done at all. It will take a while for your body to settle down so dont worry. Alot of the swelling comes from the dumbing injection not from the product so if your feeling brave :) and want little down time from work I would suggest skipping that. Ask your doctor if he has a zimmer machine(blows out ice cold air) or simply numb the area with ice right before he injects. Its makes the world of difference in the recovery time and also the doctor can be more accurate in where he puts the product because the numbing injection will swell you even before he begins. If anyone wants I can recommend a great doctor in Jackson, MS.
Please send me the dr's name...Thanks What is the cost?

Wow i am suprised to hear that. Maybe its not being injected properly, because I have had both. I did have restalyne in my n.folds and it was great but felt a bit harder then juvederm. I just recently got juvaderm in my lips and n.folds and I couldnt be happier, it looks amazing and feels and looks so much smoother. It wasnt as painfull either(it still hurt a bit dont get me wrong but not as much)
I have had Juvederm injected in my horizontal forehead lines by a plastic surgeon in Dec. They said they used a half of the syringe and I could come back in 6 months for another set of injections with the remaining product on the syringe. I read on your forum this should not be done. Is this standard? In addition, I felt that the injection sites were too few and lumpy. Any suggestions or comments.
Did you have it done by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon?
Sorry to hear this news.
I had Juvederm injections at the corners of my lower lip to remove some lip wrinkles and the bruising was so horrible it literally turned BLACK for over five days! Two months later, I still have purple discoloration patches on both sides of my chin. I would NEVER EVER do any facial injections again and I would not recommend it for anyone. The unknown factors far outweigh the silly small benefits of normal facial aging lines. hmmmm ... a few wrinkles versus purple discoloration patches ...
Sorry to hear this...
Did you have it done by a reputable Plastic Surgeon?
I have never had a patient with this type of complication. Is the color more blue than purple? This can be from injection placed too superficially in the skin. Was this done by an board-certified dermatologist? If so please go back to them and explain the problem and ask them for a treatment to remove the product. Very simple to do one small shot or tiny pore created to drain any material, should leave no marks/ scars etc. Please let us know what they say/do as this is highly unusual.
View answers from Shawn Allen, MDWe use "Arnica Montana" orally and topically in our practice to decrease the risk of bruising. Find a health food store in your area and ask for Arnica. We do tons of injectables and have never had the kind of buising we read about on these venues.I've even had clients come in 6 months post LipoDissolve (recieved at other at other clinics) and are still bruised. We suggest Arnica and those that take it report back that even older bruises resolve in days. We use "Boiron" homeopathic remedys. You can also buy them on-line.
View answers from Karl ElserThe good news is that the bumps/lumps will disolve and disappear over time and smooth over. The problem is not with the product(either Juvederm or Restylane) but with the practioner who is injecting the product. I have experienced the same thing because the Doctor was inexperienced with the product. The next time I found a board certified plastic surgeon who knows what he is doing and have had perfect results for years with Restylane and now with the Juvederm. When I asked my Doctor why his injections didn't cause the "thread," he said that it takes skill and an artistic hand when injecting the area. While I pay a little more I feel it is worth it to get the maximum benefit possible from the product.
You have hit the nail on the head!! Please spread the word to your friends about the excellent injector you have found! Just because we are cosmetic dermatologists or plastic surgeons does not guarantee we will necessarily all have similar skills with fillers. This is truly an art , requiring a keen eye and an ability to judge the subtle differences in each patients face and enhance their natural beauty. Therefore, word of mouth is the best way to be ensured of great results or ask your injector if he/she has any patient references they could call to understand better what to expect. As a guideline do start with the skin experts (dermatologists/ plastic surgeons / facial plastic surgeons)if you dont have references and then go from there.
View answers from Shawn Allen, MDI just had Juvederm injections yesterday to help mitigate creases in the corners of my mouth and the early signs of "marionette lines". Immediately post-injection I was very pleased, but within 4 hours I developed swelling and lumpiness. It's been 24 hours now and the left side has improved greately, swelling is down and the large lumps are now small and can only be felt, not seen. The right side is still noticeably swollen and with large lumps, though as with the left side the lumps can only be felt, not seen. I'm hoping this is just part of the temporary swelling. I have great sympathy for the prior posters because I know how they feel ! I am drinking lots of water and am considering using warm compresses to help reduce the swelling. I'm also going to do some 'net research to find out if perhaps gentle massage will help.
One comment about Juvederm in the lips ... I had my injections done at a highly respected plastic surgeon's office where he and his assistant made the decision to use Juvederm instead of Restylane because of the better staying power. They told me they would not use Juvederm in the lips, I'm sorry I don't remember why but perhaps anyone considering using Juvederm in the lips should do a lot of 'net research or consult several physicians first before proceeding.
Just want to update my situation ...
It has now been 4 days since getting the Juvederm injections. The swelling is almost completely gone. I have a bit of bruising, and I can still see the injection marks, not a problem as I know this will disappear soon. (I am very pale and any little marks are highly visible on me !) The lumpiness is greatly improved, almost totally gone on one side, mostly gone on the other. The lumps are not visible, they can only be felt. I read that with time and possibly massage too the lumps will go away. I am gently massaging the area several times per day.
I am very satisfied with this treatment and product and plan to have it again as necessary. I will only be dissatisfied if the substance disappears too quickly (< 6 months) or leaves any sort of disfigurement (pits or lumps) after it's gone.
do you know why they would not use juvederm in the lips? what can you use in the lips? Can I have the name of the physician that would not use juvederm? Thanks ..emma
Those who have swelling, lumps, etc. are in the majority, and any doctor who tells you those type symptoms are rare is not telling you the truth. I guess telling a patient that 86 percent experience swelling might cause some loss of business. With the Internet, always do proper research.
In the FDA study that eventually led to Juvederm being approved for use in the U.S. check the following (this was the test study of 439 patients being tested by the FDA.:
What side-effects occur with use of Juvéderm?
As reported in patient diaries, redness (93%), pain/tenderness (90%), firmness (88%), swelling (86%), lumps/bumps (79%), bruising (59%), itching (36%), and discoloration (33%) all occurred with significant frequency (percentages reported for Juvaderm 24HV), but at the same rate as occurred with the control bovine collagen injection.
Today is Sunday and I had Juvederm injections on Wednesday to plump out marionette lines that are a family facial characteristic that I've hated my whole life. I actually used to sit in front of the mirror and place wet pieces of cotton inside my mouth to imagine how I would look without that permanent sad sack face.
I had read about Restylane and had been considering the injections for the past two years and during prior visits had discussed it with my dermatologist. However, when I finally decided to go through with the injections, she said they had been using Juvederm since January since it was softer and more natural looking.
The injection process was not very painful- I described it to my doctor as a 1-2 on a scale of 10. She used 2 syringes-about 1 ml on each side. I have no lumpiness at all. Maybe this is because my doctor masssaged the areas during the injection process to even it out.
I am very happy with the result on the left side, no redness, no lumpiness, no bruising, no swelling-- and it seems to have made a positive improvement on that side of my face. But at the moment I have no appreciation for the total look and certainly don't feel like I've gotten much bang for my buck because on the right side, I have such severe brusing. The bruising is very dark and although it's been almost five (5) days now, it has not faded at all. At the moment I'm pretty unsightly. The entire crease between my nose and mouth on the right side is a big blue-black bruise so the area being darker seems to recede somewhat, exactly the opposite of the point here. So, I can't determine the effect of the injection on the right side or see the results as a whole. The bruising is so dark I can't even cover it with my heavy duty concealer.
Whether or not I would do this again depends on how long it takes the bruising to go away--(it will eventually go away, won't it?) --and how long the injections last. I was told the effect would last about 9 months. The protracted healing process and the expense of the injections make doing it more often than that unfeasible for me.
Two days ago I had a spot of Juvederm put under lower lip on both sides (in the litle divots) for some fullness as I am at the age where this helps. Swelling not bad ,BUT the black/ purple bruise on both sides where injected is horrible. Cannot cover up with any combination of concealors.
The areas are red/purple today and have spread down to lower chin. Size of nickles. Using Arnica gel
several times daily. I am house- bound. Can't leave as it is so awful looking. Can anyone please give me advise on what I can do to improve bruises? Will they go away? This is going into day three.
Procedure done by facial Plasitic surgeon. Had Juvederm in upper lips this year that was fine .Only lasted 4 months, but no problems.
Update on my juvederm bruising in area under lower lip. Did not use dental block. Bruising was horrible blu/black, but no swelling. Found out Arnica gel is not being used anymore because of poor results. I can agree with that! Was given new Arnica tablets to dissovlve under tongue (4 two x a day) This is end of day 4 and bruising still all way down to chin and can't leave house as no concealer tried does the job. However, bruising same --turned a red/ blue color. I had fear of this being a permanent thing. Will not ever try this area again. Has anyone else had this experience? Just wanted to look my best for guests arriving in a couple of days. Now I will have to explain discoleration. Woe is me.
Had Restylane in upper lip for a couple of years, but it did not last more than 2-3 months. Did not last any longer than collegan which was 1/2 the price. Juvedermm in upper lip lasted 4 months, but some lumpyness. Not as bad as the Restylane bumps. Juvederm for whole syringe is good for 3 treatments or almost 1 yr.
Noted that the US FDA gave Juvederm a "label extension" that suggests juvederm may last longer than restylane and other hyaluronic acid injections
Allergan announced "approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of label extensions for JUVEDERM(TM) Ultra and JUVEDERM(TM) Ultra Plus based on new clinical data demonstrating that the effects of both products may last for up to one year, which is longer than reported in clinical studies that supported FDA approval of other hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers."
I HAD JUVEDERM ABOUT 5 YRS. AGO IN N.J. IN THE NOSE TO MOUTH AREA BY A REPUTABLE DR. I SAW VERY LITTLE, IF ANY, DIFFERENCE. I NOTICED NO PARTICULAR DISCOMFORT, SWELLING OR BRUISING OTHER THAN THE INJECTION PROCESS ITSELF.
I had juvaderm 3 days ago. Although the nurse stated she noticed difference, I really did not.
I still don't . Does it improve over time?? I thought the results were immediate?
I had very noticeable nasal lines, and had juvederm two days ago. I can't see one bit of difference. I'm disappointed.
Did your improve over time?
I had Juvederm yesterday and have no brusing. I do have a small bit of swelling on both sides. The area I had done was the nasolabial fold which went down to the corners of my mouth. There is a definite improvement. But I went in thinking I can get away with one, maybe two vials. The dermatologist who I've been going to and trust, told me he thought I needed three vials. So he did two and showed me the results. I then saw the improvement but wanted more area done so got a third vial. I think that's the trick, to have enough injected. I had a dental block done which wasn't very painful so the injections were a breeze, no pain. My advise is to go to a very skilled dermatologist or plastic surgeon and spring for a bit more so you're happy.
I had juvederm injected under my eyes 5 days ago, and I think the dr injected too much--I have ridges where the fullness should be (so he hit the target) but it looks overfilled and creates a darkness about the fill. Is it too soon to think I need to go back in for him to try to reduce it? I'm still a bit bruised, but I don't think these ridges are swelling--I think it's too much injected... Any one have thoughts on this?
I had juvederm injection under my eyes also almost three months ago and I have horrible lumps especially under my right eye. I did this on August 6th to prepare for my class reunion which was last weekend. It was a horrible decision and I doubt that it will ever go away until my body absorbs the gel. I also still have bruising which can't be covered by concealer. I feel like I look like a freak and would advise anyone considering it "DON'T DO IT". The procedure has caused so much stress. I wish I had never signed the form on bumps because I would be preparing for a lawsuit. I will say that my doctor is highly respected and is board certified for whatever it's worth.
Hi Pat,
I also had Juvederm under my eyes this pat October. I am extremely unhappy with the results! I have two lumps under each of my eyes both of which are accompanied by bue discoloration and hypermigmentation underneath them. People keep asking me if I fell or if my boyfriend punched me! I am extremely unhappy with the results. The Doctor who injected me keeps telling me it should go away by the 6th month mark however, it looks exactly the same and sometimes worse on different days. I am embarrassed to leave my house and my confidence level has dropped! I am spending more money purchasing concealers to cover the blue discoloration and more time applying them where before I had Juvederm, I never used any!
Have you seen any improvement? Also if anyone else can relate to me and Pats story can you please give me some feedback as to what youre experiences were or are? I am afraid this is permanent!
I had juvederm under my eyes on June 27, 2007. I did not get any numbing, it was painful. I am happy with the results. I think it has dissipated pretty much by now and am planning to go back on April 4th for more. The only side effect I have is a slight discoloration, or blue look, under my eyes, but I can cover it up with concealer. It is not bad enough to make me not do it again. I also had it injected in my nasal folds and it worked very well there. I would like to have a few lines around my mouth injected this time as well.
What area are you from? Wondering who your doctor is. Considering this. But all I'm reading are horror stories.
Thanks
I also had Juvederm under my eyes in October - and I HATE IT! I have big red/orange lines under each eye - and they told me it would go away in 6 weeks. . . go figure. . . I have bought a lot of concealers as well - I had a horrible week + after the injections -- my eyes were the size of Texas - I would NEVER DO IT AGAIN and would NOT RECOMMEND this!
I had Juvederm injected under my eyes three weeks ago by a plastic surgeon. Before I had the solution injected my eyes did not look bad!
I simply wanted a bit of improvement.
When I left the doctor's office I also looked like if I had been in a boxing fight that day. Since then, I have visited two dermatologists and have had the area injected with a solution to dissolve the Juvederm. I am so dissapointed! I also feel terrible. The area under my eyes is still swollen. It looks horrible!
The last dermatologist I saw, asked me to wait another week, then he would inject Restylane. I really hope this works.
My advice to anyone is not to use Juvederm under the eyes!!!!!!!!!
Please!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had restylane injections under my eyes and I was bruised a bit but it was much better than before. I'm not sure i will do it again though. I thinking i will save my money and have some sort of lasering under my eyes. It's a lot of money to be temporary.
Hi roberta,
I had the same issues with Juvederm in the TT. Still bumps and discoloration 12 months later. Did yours clear?
jen
I had Restalyne injections under my eyes for the first time 2 months ago. I wear glasses and it looks like a mark where my glasses rest on my face but they don't. I like my hollow look better than bags! I'm having a lifestly lift next Thursday and the Dr told me yesterday it would go away. I guess maybe as it starts wearing off. For what I paid for it I will probably save my money for a permanet fix to fill in the hollowness.
Hello,
I'm a reporter at Fox 11 News in Los Angeles researching the potentially negative effects of injectable fillers. If you have experienced any painful or damaging consequences of fillers such as Juvederm, please contact me

I have had Juvederm, by a very reputable plastic surgeon, and had brusing and lumps on each side of my naso-labial folds. There is scarring now, and I really don't think that I will do this again. I had a Mini-facelift, which I was led to believe would take care of these furrows, but they were not affected. I really can't tell that I had a facelift, except the work around my eyes, and I had to do the shots, because I wanted to get a full rejuvenation apparence. I would recommend that we age gracefully. All this money and failed results, are absolutely worthless. I was a fool to have done either process.
I just started having my lips injected a few months ago. I go to a very well known plastic surgeon's office in Beverly Hills. They have a nurse that just does injectibles. The first time I asked her to be very conservative and she did. I only did my upper lip on the sides. My lips didn't bruise at all!! there was a small dot at one of the injection sites but it went away within 5 days. I did experience some swelling. But she told me to expect that. I tool a 1000 Arnica tablet at the office for swelling and left with ice on it, I also use Arnica cream for swelling. After she injected my lips she massaged them. My downtime is about 3-4 days to avoid people that know me really well! A stranger would have no idea I just had them done!! I loved my lips so much that i went back today for another touch up! We still ony did the top lip, I have little duck lips but they will be gone in a day or so! Good luck gals!
Hi....I read your poster and am considering getting only my top lip done as well w/Juvederm....I was just curious how many syringes were used (I'm assuming maybe just one) and how much it cost....if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!
I had Juvederm injections into my "marionette lines" almost 3 weeks ago. I had severe burising on the left side that I also could not conceal for over a week. At first I thought it looked pretty good until the swelling subsided. I don't see anywhere near the results I expected and was told I would see. I also have very large noticeable lumps at ALL of the injection sites. I return to the Dr., also a very well known and respectable plastic surgeon in my area, later this week. I had this done for my 50th birthday. What a huge mistake this was! I look worse than I did before the injections. If it takes as long for the lumps to disappear as the product is supposed to last (up to a year) this has been a real disaster.
My comments on juvederm are basically positive. Juvederm is highly malleable, which means if you have lumps or it doesn't look smooth, the doctor can show you (within the first two weeks) how to massage it into place and smooth it out. It is a bit painful because you do have to massage hard enough to move it around. I had my lips done (which look fabulous) and I had the corners of my mouth turned up, slight jowls done, and the nasofold area. Everything turned out well, although I did have to go back for the nasofold area because it didn't smooth out enough, and she needed to add a little more to the left side. (sometimes touch-ups are needed after the initial injection, that's why they ask you to come back for a follow-up the following week) During my follow-up the doctor massaged the nasofolds and put the juvederm into place and smoothed it out. She was definitely using force, and it hurt a little, but afterwards it looked good. She showed me how to massage them as well, and I have been doing it. I use arnica gel and oil to help massage, and it helps bring down the swelling and brusing if you have any. I didn't bruise much. I think people dis the product, however, I think it the doctor or nurse who does the injections as to how well it is done. Not all plastic surgeons are good injectors. It takes someone that does it a lot and on a regular basis and knows how the products react.
Terry - this was a really thought ful comment which helped me understand juvaderm a lot better. thnk you!
to confuse things my doctor recommmends perlane over juvederm. anyone know the skinny on perlane? all i know is the name makes me think about a dental product!!
Hi!
Would you be able to tell me where you had your Juvederm done?
Thank you

I had it done and thought it was very painful. I did get a very bad bruise on one side. Even make up would not hide it. It took about a week before it faded enough so that make up would cover it. It was many weeks before that bruise went away. However, I thought the results were positive. Everyone said that it made me look younger.
I had Juvederm injected into my laugh lines on Monday and now I have what looks like a swollen scratch with three bumps running along .One is at the tip of the sctratch, one in the middle and one at the end. On the other side of my mouth, there is a bruise. I cant cover all off this with make-up and it's so humilating to walk around looking like this!!! I'm VERY concerned. My doctor didnt prepare me for all this!!! I just bought some arnica gel and im going to try it and see how it works.
I had Juvederm injected into my lips yesterday. I was SO SCARED last night. I looked like a duck! My doctor used an entire cc to fill my lips- I had hoped he only needed half since I am smaller and only wanted a small difference. The swelling has gone down today, but they are still pretty big. I really hope they go down a lot b/c anyone that knows me will be able to tell a huge difference. I am very pale (blonde w/ blue eyes) and had no bruising. I do see large lumps, but they can be hidden w/ lipliner and I hope they go away. My doctor didn't want to see me for a month and told me NOT to massage, so I hope everything goes okay. I had a dental block done and I was numb into the night. I think this helped in making me look like a duck despite the fact I kept ice on it! I'll post in a few days to let you know how it is going! Wish me luck!
Hi there!
I was just checking in to see how everything turned out with your Juvederm lips? I had mine done yesterday for the first time and I am horrified right now. I look like a duck. My top lip jets out like a duck bill, I'm swollen and bruised. If my family sees me like this they will really be shocked. It's obvious I had my lips done. I'm a normal person, not a movie star, so I don't want my lips to be so huge. Did yours end up looking good? Some people say their swelling was down by the next day...that scares me since I still look so huge. I had a dental block as well. Well any advise or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!
i've never used restylane, but had my first lip augmentation ever with juvederm today. although my lips are a bit swollen and duckish still, i am SO happy with the results. i have lived my entire life without a top lip....i now have one!!! it looks just like when i'd turn the skin of my lips out, to see what it looked like to have a lip. the doc took an hour and an amp and a half doing it, and i'm going back in 2 weeks for the last half an amp to touch up. it is fairly smooth, and what little lumps i feel, i massage VERY firmly, and you can feel it spread out more evenly. i highly recommend this to all gals who have that horrible thin upper lip....to me, one of the most unappealing facial features there is. and i suffered from this myself for so many years, and just hated it....now, i am so much more confident, and actually have a nice, balance mouth! do your research on WHO is doing the injections, and go for it!
Are you still happy with your results? Have you experienced any bumpiness? And did you only do your lips?
i had juvederm injected into both upper and lower lips last wednesday. i went to a trained plastic surgeon. he froze me with the infra orbital dental block, and i didn't feel a thing (when the juvederm was injected) he messaged my lips after the procedure. i could see the tiny little dots where the injection sites had been - but other than that, there was no bruising at all. i do remember the duck lips look but now it is gone and i am soo happy with my lips. i came home that same day after the procedure and my husband didn't even notice!! this is the way i wanted it. i didn't want to go home and everybody know i had cosmetic surgery. i still wanted to look natural, now i just have a liite more "oompf" . using lipstick now is so much more fun!!! i may even go back in a few weeks to use up the rest of the syringe. there is probably a 5th of the syringe left. i just hope the cost of this comes down as it becomes more popular. does anyone know of long term effects of repeated injections? lip cancer? etc etc??
Had procedure done March 12 2008 LOVE THIS STUFF!
Can I just say I am thrilled to death that I now have a top lip. All my life I have lived with a bottom lip that protruded out more than my top b/c my top lip was flat and I had no cupid bow. I was even seeing a doctor to ck into upper jaw surgery to correct the jaw uneveness and that would bring my top lip forward. BUT i just thought of having the top injected to see if it would work. AMAZING can I say I hate I never did this years ago. I can't believe I finally have a top full lip that matches the bottom. My Dr. said he prefers prelane and Rest. He was a dermatologist that did the injections. I had botox, and perlane and rest. in my nose folds, under eyes and top lip and I had swelling but no bruisng at all! I did hold ice for a while after. He studied under the person who invented Botox...and they said it is all in the injections. I did have two small lumps that formed around the mouth, but just rubbing a little to see what happens. My lip def. went down a lot and I will FOR SURE go back for more.
I did hear about a product on the surgery makeover show (Swan)and they used something that sounded like "Aloveron" for lip implant surgery. But I can't find anything on it.

Hey,
What did you have injected under your eyes? I have just started to notice a little hollowness and would love to try rest. or one of the other fillers under my eyes- there is a great dr. here where I live who is a perfectionist about his injections and does excellent work- what do you suggest?
Thaks!
You've figured out the hardest part...finding a perfectionist injector who is skilled , artistic and experienced. If you trust them, ask them what they prefer under the eyes and how many they have done there as there is some tricky anatomy in the area that only experts in facial anatomy truly understand.

I host Beauty Now.. and am married to a plastic surgeon..
around your eyes..go human collagen.. otherwise you can get
lumpy real easy.. human collagen doesnt last as long but you
will get the results you want..you might have to go back twice.. If he is a perfectionist then I am sure he will know what is best but this is what works for me.. tell us what he says.. Thanks Teri
Hi
It is good to do your research..
The guy that invented botox lives in San Francisco..I know that because my family started the company that makes botox..
there are many drs that are trained or spokepeople for Allergan but you always have to be careful what you choose..I
am married to a plastic surgeon and host a beauty show called beauty now on I tunes.. I love the fillers.. my upper lip always deflated too..I laughed when you explained about your bottom lip..me too.. but my husband wont let me put too much in my upper lip so I wont look like a freak.that is a good dr too..
I think restalyn is the best for lips..it doesnt get lumpy and lasts the longest.. also for your nose to lips ask about radiesse.. it lasts 2 years.. love it.. it does hurt and the first couple days you need to press your lumps down..but lasts so long and looks great.. I like juvederm or human collagen around your eyes because you can get lumpy there..
It is really good to get some referrals and check out your dr to make sure they are trained to inject all these new injectables...
I had juvederm done yesterday.I found it very painful in the lips,i had a dental bloick done as well but the right side didnt take after two tries,i had to have it with a numbing creme which did not seem to work at all.Today i have bruising and lumps, there was no way to hide that i had this procedure done.I am really hoping in a day or so i will like a little better.Right now i look like a duck.
I am so bad..it all hurts..I tried the blocks etc..
I say have a friend drive you and take either anti anxiety and half pain pill with the numbing.. and get all you can on that day.. I am a baby.. married to a plastic surgeon.usually have to drink the bottle of wine.. and then have him drive me there..
just kidding..only half the bottle.. seriously there are things you can do.. just get a driver... lol
Risks are associated with everything but I would much rather get restylane or juverderm then breast implants etc. I recommend juverderm or restylane to anyone. I get it my lips and it looks natural. Depending on how you tell your doctor to inject it.
I've had Juvederm and restylane in the past 2 months about 4 times. I went back to my doctor to get restylane a few weeks after my I finished my first syringe and cant tell a difference between the two. My doctor said juvederm is supposed to last longer but I haven't had it for long so I guess I'll count down to the day I no longer notice it! If it dissipates sooner then later I'll not get it again but as reading other posts most people seem to like juvederm.
I had Juvederm injected under my eyes yesterday. No lumps or bumps, and the swelling is minimal. Yet, it looks like someone took a red marker and made two dots under both my eyes. It doesn't have any scab or other typical injection site appearance. I am worried that she broke some blood vessels. Has anyone had this? I am really hoping this will go away. If it's permanent, my face is ruined.
Hey reddot thats funny, I just had restylane under my eyes this past Monday (2 days ago) and i have a red spot under my left eye and a very very faint one under my right one, but when i woke up today they def. looked a bit faded. Don't worry, I think It is just a mark from the injection and it will go away.
I got juvaderm about two weeks ago in the corners of my mouth were there were starting to be folds. The Dr. said the would be completely filled in and the folds would be gone. When I got through I was swollen alittle bit not bad but, the crease swas still there. She used a half of syringe on each side. The juvadern went everywhere except the creases. It was the wierdest thing. I saw her making sticks right were the crease were and it totaly migrated away. In two days it was gone. This is no joke I could not feel it from the inside nor see it from the ouside. Where did it go and why did not last but 2 days? The Dr. said I was going to be her challenge patient and she was going to call ther company. Has this happened to anyone else?
wow, this is a cool sight.ive done juvederm and aside fro the hideous bruising and swelling, it all went well, my doctor is the best ive had for my face..she smooth, and gentle with the injections
I am part of a marketing research group hoping to find information on the cosmetic dermatology market. I have been reading all your posts and find each entry intriguing. My group and I were hoping those of you reading this site could provide us with additional information about your reasoning for choosing these procedures. Also any information about your current demographic (age, sex, town, a rough estimate of income) would be extremely helpful to our group.
We hope to hear from you soon!!
56 y/o african american, $100,000 plus, owings mills maryland. thinking about filler for nasal labial folds, but after reading this site I think that I will do more research. thinking about it because i work out look pretty good for my age except for these folds which actually are more hereditary than age. hope this helps
I just had restylane on lip line and juvederm in nasal folds. I had it done on Thursday, and when I left the office my mouth was really swollen. A few hours later, the swelling was significantly reduced. By friday the swelling was almost gone. I did look like a duck a little, but only one person noticed. I never had any problem with the nasal folds. No discoloration, no swelling that I can see. So it looks like the restalyne made me swell, and the juvederm didn't. BTW, I am also african american. I live in new jersey.
I am 43 and had my first injection of botox and perlane in March. I never had an upper lip and I mean I had no cupid bow at all and my bottom lip stuck out more than my top and i recently have been seeing doctors to have upper jaw surgery to make my appearance even. But since I received the upper lip injection my lip is even with my bottom and I am just estactic w/ the results. I just wish I would have thought to do it years ago. It made such a difference in my look b/c the fold around the mouth were getting bad and the botox lifted my eyes a little and I look so much more rested. I do have two little lumps but not bad. I just wish it did last longer and less expensive.

did you have perlane injected in your lip? Can you tell me how peralane differs from juvederm?
emma
I had my first Juvaderm injection (in my lips) in November. Overall, I am satisfied, however still unsure as to whether I prefer Restylane (had Restylane injections twice before also in lips). With Juvaderm I ALSO had those little white spots on my lips. Very very scary.. I think I even cried.. THANK THE LORD, it went away in about a week and completely dissapeared within two. Other than the scary white spots, Juvaderm is all right. I just feel as though Restylane held its elasticity for longer.
Does anyone agree with that? Restylane over Juvaderm??
had Juvederm in my folds and marionette lines, also a bit of resty and juv to do fine lip lines, well I am sooooo bruised on my left upper lip to my nose. Small bruises on right side, coverup ok, but my plan not to tell hubby was wasted, he saw the bruises THROUGH the coverup, was upset for me. Contacted NP office and sent them pictures. Cannot tell if fine lines are gone, too much bruising, I am not happy yet. Also had the botox, on side of brows for lift and middle crease(no forhead--have bangs.) Btox looking good. Spent total of 2500.00 for 2 juv, 1 resty and 2 botox syringes. I will insist on free do over if lines are not good. The bruising is upsetting, was not told of thei--size of a quarter at least.
I had Restylane injected in the naso folds 2 days ago. Other than a tiny bruise at the injection site, it looks good. The lines are plumped up and it looks very natural. I hope it isn't just swelling.
There are no lumps or bumps. The doctor did massage the area after he injected it informing me that he finds that is a good way to make sure the gel goes where it is needed.
I also had Active FX laser under my eyes. The redness is starting to subside. I must admit that after the procedure and the day afterwards, it is painful and you look very scary. In fairness, the doctor did inform me of this, so I didn't completely freak out. But the reality is different.
Today, it is starting to turn brown and crust over which is part of the process. I'm still swollen so it is hard to tell if the lines have been diminished for real.
I recently had a facelift/blepharoplasty Jan 23rd as well as juvederm in my marionette lines and corners of mouth....also botox in lines between eyebrows. I had no after-effects with the juvederm and only noticed little red marks from the needle which lasted 2-3 days. Since I was swollen from the facelift I don't know if any swelling was caused by the juvederm. I had no bruising from the juvederm. I am pleased with the result and also with the botox.
ok i just had the Resty done today on my lips, I looked like a duck the first 2 hours then the swelling went down. But I have lumps on the top and bottom lip. The Dr. told me to keep massaging my lips to "mold" them so I will. I like the way it looks just the little lumps are annoying me. Oh yeah, someone asked how much. 500 per Srng.
Hi everyone.... I have been considering getting juviderm to plump my lips and make them appear fuller. It seems as though evryones comments are negative. I am not sure that I should do this. Is there a lot of bumpiness adn bruising involved? If so, for how long and does it ever look natural eventually? Thank you
I had juvederm to make my lips fuller on Nov 30..yes it hurt and yes there were bumps but I just followed my Doc's advice and put on my cold packs and after 4 days massaged out the lumps...My lips look AWESOME!!!!
I tried both....in my lips....Juvederm worked ALLOT better for the lip (for me that is)
i have tried both, restylane has a more narural look becasue it is thinner and softer but unlike the juvederm. But I believe Juvederm lasts longer than restylane and gets absorbed by the body slowly.
Juvederm all the way!!!!
Hi:
I have had both, at least 4 times each, over the last few years and they both gave me only very short term results - 2 months max. But the results were great. My metabolism is so fast. My nurse who does my botox and filler has recommend Artefill. Next week I will go in for a test patch and then wait 1 month to get the filler injected.
Restylane is lumpier than Juvederm. Both only last 3-4 months (used on upper lip).
Long time user of collagen which Doctors no longer use. Make more money on Restylane and Juvederm.
Cost twice as much or more and really not much difference in results. Last same amount of time 3-4 months.
I had Juvederm done by a popular "cosmetic dermatologist" in August and now it is March. I thought it was lumpy and I didn't like it for awhile, and was massaging the lumps. But in 2 weeks people said I looked great. I made an appt. at my regular dermatologist for a restylane touch up this time, as a friend of mine swears by it. But I think there is still some Juvederm left as I still look pretty good. I hear that the success of either product has to do with the way it is injected. I wanted to give my regular derm. a chance with the restylane because that's all he uses and he has had a lot of success and no problems so far. Besides the nasal labial folds, I have some tricky areas that need filling near the mouth corners so I hope he is very skilled. I also hope that I can clearly explain the results I'm looking for. I've read all the responses and they are helpful. Keep posting. These fillers are new and we need to hear from as many as we can.
I am interested in botox or juvederm for my line in between my eyebrows .... I have not done any injections before, how much do they cost? and is the best solution.... Thanks...
Hi Trisha
Here's a guide to Botox cost information based on Botox data provided by RealSelf community members
Also doctors and pros on RealSelf offer insight into how much does Botox cost
Here is Juvederm cost information
Thank you for the comment,

Hi Trisha,
I find that for deep vertical lines between your eyebrows a combination of Botox and Restylane works best. Botox alone will help a great deal in most cases, but in patients with deep lines, filling them with a hyaluronic soft tissue filler (Restylane or Juviderm) seems to make the lines stay away even after the effects of the Botox wear off. Good luck.

Hi! Just had juvederm injected into my lips. So far everything is looking pretty good. Although I suffered an intense headache following the procedeure. My question is: My doctor used Juvederm 18 to augument my lips. Why did he use 18 versus #30 or #24.?
several people have commented that after the injection that they did not see the area fill in. the area will fill in over time since the juvederm and restylane with slowly incorporate water and with increase in volume. if the area is injected with too much then it may bulge. I you can take the discomfort you will get better results not using anesthesia.
I HAD ALLODERM IMPLANTS ON MY LIPS DONE ON MARCH 22, MY BOTTOM LIP LOOKS GREAT BUT MY UPPER LIP IS NOT NOTICEABLE AND I CAN FEEL THE IMPLANT ABOVE MY LIP. HOW CAN THAT HAPPEN? WITH THAT BEING SAID I WOULD LIKE TO ENHANCE THE UPPER LIP DO I HAVE TO WAIT A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE I CAN TRY JUVIDERM?
Hi Angie,
You need to speak with your doc that placed the Alloderm into your upper lip to find out why you feel it above your lip. At this point, if the swelling from your Alloderm procedure has subsided, it is safe to add a little Juviderm or Restylane to your upper lip. Remember that your lower lip should be about 30% larger/fuller than your upper lip to avoid having your lips look "funny". Good luck.

Hi
I understand your dismay, I to had paid a prominent Board Cert. Plastic Surgeon to inject my forehead furrows with Juvederm. The nurse said he used less than half the syringe. The area appeared bumpy for about a week and I feel it did not make much of a change. I also received a headache similar to "brain freeze", the next day. My pain leavel was about a 5, when he was injecting. I wish I could tell others in my area about my experience.
I have no recourse, everthing seemed so vague. Results are different they say and of course they are. When it is a Dr. you would not dare to complain and ask for your money back.
I think technique and skill are the key. It makes me very leary to trust anyone because they are are a MD.
This was not cheap and I am not wealthy.
Maybe, The King is not Wearing any Clothes.
I had Juvederm injections under my eyes Aug 6th in preparation for my highschool reunion. I have lumps and still have bruising. That's been almost two months. My doctor is highly respected and a board certified plastic surgeon. I only have a week before my reunion and I look like a freak. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I think the best bet is to do research and drive far, if need be, to find a good practitioner who specializes in injectible fillers.
I had a disaster with Juvederm with Dr. K in Metairie. I cannot believe he would let me walk out of his office looking this ridiculous. The man can't possibly think this looks good! If nature had cursed me to look this way, i would pay money to get myself fixed. It kills me that I paid him to give me bulging bags under my eyes to make me look old and ugly. And the swelling is gone, so I am stuck with these hard, protruding bags that were not there before. Everybody would tell me how beautiful I was before. All i wanted to do was fill in some hollows that were forming to look refreshed, and I now look ugly and old. Why did I do this to myself??? Please girls, be aware and do your homework before abusing your face.
I am so depressed. Does anyone know of a good Juve doctor in the New Orleans Metro area? Thanks so much!
I recommend that you go see a dermatologist who has hyaluronidase in their office. This is the product that will dissolve and remove Restylane Juvederm and Perlane in less than 24 hours.
View answers from Shawn Allen, MDI just got juv in smile lines and mar lines. I notice nothing yet. This was about 8 hrs ago. I hope this fills out! because if not I am going to be disappointed. I have read on the Juv sight that results are right then. (whatever!)
As far as lips, I had mine injected about a yr ago with silicone, yes-SILICONE! And I love them! The result is LIFETIME and the cost was about $600. I have had several strangers walk up to me and say "wow u have beautiful lips!"... I guess most Drs will not use this
