The most important thing is to prime your skin for self tanning. I recommend applying a gentle, nourishing and hydrating exfoliating wash without oils to the face and body as a primer before applying self tanning products to smooth the skin’s surface and exfoliate dry skin.

I recommend Aqua Tan extremely Gentle Exfoliating Gelée Enriched with White Tea, Cucumber and Green Tea Extracts. It removes dull surface cells and purifies pores without granules or abrasion. It also helps stimulate cell renewal revitalizing and hydrating your skin. Fruit enzymes gently rejuvenate and refine your skin leaving it soft, smooth and radiant. This silky, nourishing exfoliating wash prepares your face and body for an even, gorgeous tan.

Exfoliation is extremely important, especially how you do it. How you exfoliate the skin matters for two reasons:

  • When a sunless tanner is applied, it colors the outermost layer of the skin, meaning every time you lose a skin cell you are losing color. By removing the skin cells that are at the end of their life cycle, you are ahead of the game on how long your spray tan will last.
  • The way that you exfoliate your skin is going to determine the evenness of the application. If you use an abrasive exfolitator such as a loofah or salt glow, you are creating minor abrasions in the skin. These abrasions are like taking sand paper and rubbing it all over your skin and in turn the solution will end up in these cracks. You always want to use a NON-ABRASIVE exfoliator that will remove skin cells that are at the end of their life cycle and leave in place healthy young cells. This will lead to an overall even application and a longer wearing color.
    • Infinity Sun has developed a Non-Abrasive pineapple enzyme-based exfoliant specifically designed to remove dead skin cells and leave skin soft and ready to be tanned.

pH balance of skin is also imperative when you are getting a spray tan. All skin types tend to have drier areas, either on elbows, knees, and arms, amongst other places. If you were to do sunless tanning with an application all over the body, the absorption would be darker in some areas and drier (more porous) in other areas. To minimize this uneven color, some sort of pH balance normalizer should be applied.

  • Infinity Sun has created two different options for pH balance normalization. One can be used at home and it is an aloe vera-based lotion that is applied at home before sunless tanning and the other can be found at a location that carries the Infinity Sun spray tanning system. It is called Infinity Normalize and it is a treatment lotion that is sprayed on by the technician prior to receiving the spray tan. This treatment helps the solution to be absorbed easier and to wear off more naturally.
