Am I Immune to Botox?

ORIGINAL POST

Right before Christmas I had Botox injections...

$390
Right before Christmas I had Botox injections between my eyes to get rid of those pesky frown lines. I wanted to look good for the family portrait but was also taking it slow, since I’ve never done any cosmetic procedures before, so I only got a low dose.

I didn’t see any results within the ten day window I was told about so I went back to double my dosage in the same area. Again, nothing. I was a little taken aback when this happened and also very disappointed to have spent what could have been Christmas money on literally nothing. When I called the clinic they were nice about it but wanted to charge me for more Botox when what they had given already wasn’t working! I at least expected a discount, not to be treated as a new, full-price patient. To be fair they were really nice about the whole thing and wanted me to be a satisfied customer, but I guess they don’t want to lose money. I can’t blame them; I didn’t like losing money on this experience either.

Long story short, today I still have prominent frown lines in between my eyes and if I try then I can make them much worse. I’m disheartened that I’m the only person who can’t seem to get Botox to work, even after I did everything I could (chose a reputable clinic, was clear about what I wanted to change, etc). I could even deal with results that didn’t live up to my expectations, but to not have it work at all? It’s very frustrating.

I haven’t decided yet if I’ll go back and try again later. It’ll probably be a waste of money.

At last someone who has had the same experience. I have gone back to my doctor now for a third time. I too was very disappointed after the first injection. I went back and they gave me a "booster". He told me to come every 3 months for injections to "fully fatigue" the muscle. I am at the 9 month mark and just had yet another injection. This time I did not even feel a slight change. When I report to the physician, he and his nurse look at me like I am crazy. My eyebrow furrows have actually gotten worse since I started this experience. VERY diappointing.
I too experienced some disappointment w/botox. The first time I had it, the results were really good, but it did take about 12 days to see full results. After 5 or 6 days, there was a general easing of lines on forehead & between my eyes & after 12, all looked smooth. It lasted about 3-4 mos & after 5 months I went for another botox treatment to the same doctor. After 2 weeks, there was improvement, but not like the first time - I still had furrows on the outer brow area & near the orbital area of my left eye. I returned to my doctor who didn't charge me & gave me another series of botox shots & nothing happened. After another 2 weeks I returned again & again he gave me a few more shots - he told me sometimes this happens. Well, that was almost 2 weeks ago & of course I'm not going to get yet more shots, but I'm very disappointed in that while the lines on my forehead & between my eyes have eased, they've not disappeared like the first time & that was only about 8 mos ago. I'll probably try botox again in a couple of months, but maybe from my friend's doctor who does a really good job. I would never, ever, go to a spa or anyone but a licensed physician for any kind of shots.
I too had this experience just about a month ago. I went to this Medical Laser Spa and the doctor recommender that I get 24 units between my eyes and 12 on the outside of my eyes. My wrinkles/lines are moderate and I too had Botox before. Infact, the previous time (another center) I had great results and used 24 units for everything. Bottom line. I have not been back for touch ups 3 times and still can see no change. The doctor is now telling me that I must be immumed to Botox.
I have had a similar experience although it is somewhat harder to frown, I have noticed that when light streams on my face from the side, the frown muscle is still prominent. Okay so having said all that I did not internet research and found a solution (somewhat) to our dilemna. Actually the Botox works to decrease the muscle temporarily thus preventing wrinkles but the mere muscle contractions alone actually make the wrinkles worse! Inorder to ease the effect of the prominent frown muscle, you need to REDUCE it surgically. Its called the "CORRUGATOR" muscle. And reducing it will alleviate the problem. Hope this helps! Melanie
You can also fill it in (much cheaper) with a dermal filler like restylane. I'm surprised the docs haven't recommended this themselves.
I frequent Island Dermatology on Mercer Island for fillers and Botox - I have been doing this for a couple of years now. Dr. Barron is WONDERFUL and I have had GREAT results! I am a product junkie, I try everything and LOVE restalyne and Botox - is it expensive....not nearly as expensive as the potions ($$$$many$$$) I have bought to try and help reduce the APPEARANCE of fine lines. I am 40 yrs. old. (Paula Collins, Dr. Barrons biggest fan!)
