HI, I got a breast augmentation 1 month ago and my right breast is still red on the top and kinda tender (more than the other one). I don't have a fever. My doctor has already had me on 2 courses of different antibiotics but I don't know if I have an infection...
How can I detect if this is an infection or just normal recovery from the breast implants? Thanks
Answer: Not always easy to determine Infection is a rare complication of routine primary breast augmentation. Typical symptoms include redness, warmth, fever, pain and drainage. Notifying your plastic surgeon early and starting an antibiotic is the right step and can often treat the problem. If you do not respond to the treatment then a different antibiotic may be indicated and if the problem persists, rarely it may be necessary to reoperate and replace or remove the implant.

Answer: Pain, redness, fevers, etc. Infection presents in many ways, but almost always will cause pain, swelling, redness, warmth of the affected breast. If you see any of these changes, please consult with your surgeon immediately, as anytime there is an implant in the body, if it becomes infected, it often times has to be removed rapidly for your well-being. In some scenarios it requires admission to the hospital, surgery, etc. It is hard to say in your specific case without photos and without knowing what things looked like before, but I would follow closely with your surgeon to make sure you are getting better. Good luck! -David Mattos, New York Plastic Surgical Group

Answer: #RealselfQ: How to Recognise Infection Symptoms After Breast Augmentation? Infection after breast augmentation will usually involve local increase in temperature, which might result in redness of the skin. That can also affect your systemic temperature. You might feel nauseous, fatigued, and in rare cases where there is an abscess formation, you might see an increase in the size of the breast.
