I think it is great that you are taking the initiative to lose weight. Most women who undergo a significant weight loss will see a change in their breast size. How much the breast size changes depends upon what percentage of the breast is composed of fat, versus breast tissue; and how much weight loss occurs. Body Mass Index (BMI) may not be the most accurate indicator for every individual, but it does give some idea as to the amount of body fat a person has, based upon his/her height and weight. Your BMI is 29.5 – the very high end of the “overweight” category; the “obese” category starts at a BMI of 30. A 30 pound weight loss would put your BMI at the upper end of the “normal weight” category. With that amount of weight loss I think you will see some decrease in breast size; and with further weight loss, probably even more. Heavy drooping breasts can be very debilitating for many women and are a source of neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, poor posture, and decreased activity levels. Breast reduction can improve many of these symptoms, improving the quality of life for such women; but it does not correct the obesity that many of these women have. In addition to a smaller breast size, weight loss will also help you avoid potential future health problems, and I am sure you will feel better overall. Best wishes, Ken Dembny
