It is common to feel fluid and even air beneath the tissues within the first week following a breast reduction. Typically fluid from irrigation, local anesthesia injected after you are asleep, serum from the raw surfaces and air is trapped in the tissues following breast reduction especially if a drain is not used. When fluid is present and continues to collect rather than decrease over time then this most likely represents a seroma which may have to be drained for treatment. Wearing a support bra and minimizing exercise will hasten the healing process in this case.
It is very likely that the fluid and air you are “feeling” after breast reduction surgery is a “normal” part of the healing process after breast reduction surgery. However, the fluid accumulation may be seroma or hematoma that should be evaluated/treated by your plastic surgeon. Therefore, best to be evaluated by your plastic surgeon for the precise diagnosis, advice and/or reassurance. Best wishes; hopefully you will be very pleased with the long-term outcome of the procedure performed.

Absorbable staples are sometimes used to close incisions. They can rotate and become more superficial and painful. In some situations it can poke through the skin. In situations like yours removal of staples at the surface that are painful would help. Discuss this matter with your surgeon.
