Breast implants undergo vigorous testing. They are very strong and capable of withstanding anything that normal breast tissue can withstand. I get patients who ask me if they are going to have to give up snow skiing because they are afraid that they might fall and breast their implants. My response is that they should be fine. If, in the worst case scenario, they were to break, they are fairly easy to replace.
Breast implants are very durable devices. They will not burst if you lay on them. The reason breast implants leak is from years and years of wear and tear. It would be unusual for pressure applied to the breast to cause rupture of the implant
Your implants will not burst. In fact, laying directly on them is part of the rapid recovery program that I use for all of my breast augmentation patients. This is part of what gets my patients back to normal activity, sore but functional, in 24-48 hours after surgery. The implants are manufactured with significant tolerances. Just think, you can even get a mammogram with implants, and that provides A LOT more pressure/compression on your implants than laying on them. So go ahead, sleep with peace of mind.
Thank you for your question. As others as stated you certainly should be able to lay on your stomach after you have fully healed from your breast augmentation. Soft freely movable breast implants should not cause you discomfort. However if you experience discomfort when lying on your stomach he should avoid it.
Consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for an evaluation, and to discuss your concerns and expectations. My surgical assistant ran over gel implants with an SUV, and they did not burst. Breast implants undergo vigorous testing for safety and strength. Best wishes!
In general, I have not found this to be an issue in making patients look larger. The goal is to select an implant that improves overall balance.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
This is a question your surgeon can best answer as he is seeing you and taking care of you. If he has concerns about healing with further fill then that is worth listening to. He may be concerned about wound healing and loss of the expander to exposure. A history of radiation treatment would...
There is no way to guarantee a particular bra size. Bra sizing varies greatly between bra manufacturers and a C in one bra will be a D in another. What matters more than the assigned bra size is the way the implant looks on you. The best option for your body and aesthetic goals can be determined...
This is a controversial topic. I have been a plastic surgeon for over 18 years and have augmented over 10,000 breasts and I have never seen a breast implant rejection.
My advice to you would be to wait at least 4-5 months as you still have post operative swelling and your breasts will continue to settle. After that point in time, if you still desire to be smaller, you can change the profile of your implant or have a smaller implant placed. In my...
Size of an implant will be the driving force as to how much the pectoralis muscle will need if at all to be divided. If the implant is a small implant (<400cc) then most often division of any muscle fibers is minimal. As the implant size, volume, and diameter increases more muscle...
