Is it recommended to have both IPL and Vbeam treatments for erythematotelangiectatic rosacea? How much time between treatments?

Vbeam laser is an excellent modality for patients who have rosacea, blushing of the skin, facial and body telangiectasia, spider veins, redness, post surgical redness, and skin flushing. It is a safe procedure that can be used at varying depths to help treat micro blood vessels in the skin. We also use it in our office for facial skin inflammation, keloids, and hypertrophic scarring. It is an important part of scar therapy. Vbeam can be combined with chemical peels and other lasers, but experience with the treatment is essential. The Vbeam laser does not affect deeper tissue. I am very glad to hear you are having good results with the Vbeam. That is an excellent laser for addressing the vascular redness caused by rosacea. I would say if you are having good results with the single device, it might not be in your best interest to add another treatment. However, I would leave that decision to your current doctor or a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist who can assess you in person and make a specific recommendation for you.

Thanks for your question.  The Vbeam laser specifically targets the hemoglobin in red blood cells and is more specific for blood vessels and Rosacea.  The IPL is technically not a laser, as it delivers a range of light wavelength, and is therefore less specific for blood vessels and Rosacea,  I would recommend continuing with the Vbeam laser at the largest possible spot size for deeper penetration, and the lowest pulsewidth (usually 6 msec) that will not induce purpura.

I love combining these two treatments to treat rosacea. I recommend doing one or the other every 3 weeks.
