Will I gain weight if I take Spironolactone?

Spironolactone is
useful in many women with acne. Weight gain from this drug is not common.
Consult with your provider if you are experiencing this – and again, know that
this is not something that we see with this drug.

Spironolactone is used to treat certain skin conditions in women, where male hormone is an important contributing factor. For example acne. Since birth control pills ( which contain estrogen) are also used to treat acne in women perhaps these instances of weight gain were due to the birth control pill, or the underlying condition, known as PCOS. In my experience spironolactone is not the cause of weight gain.
