Back acne still there after 5 month course of isotretinoin. Should I retake the medicine?

Accutane is a go-to medication for patients with recalcitrant cystic acne. It can reduce pore size and also reduce sebum production in your skin, making it less oily; and in turn, dryer. Accutane can be used to control acne, but patients receiving the medication should be carefully monitored. In terms of skincare, always wear an appropriate sunscreen and reduce direct sun exposure. In my patients, I recommend a good ceramide moisturizer such as Elevase whenever they are on Accutane. This will keep the skin hydrated and reduce the oiliness of the skin that is associated with oil-based moisturizers.

Taking Accutane for the recommended full course achieves the best results.  It is not uncommon to take a second course if all does not clear with first course.  Make sure all the IPledge information is up to date and you follow the protocol.

Thank you for the question . If your acne did not clear, I would recommend another course.  Generally , it is advised to wait 2 months after stopping the first course. In the meantime consider antibiotics and topical treatment for your back.
