As noted already, if you are talking about spots on your upper back and shoulder regions predominantly, with a slight scale associated with them, we call this tinea versicolor, which is a superficial fungus infection that is commonly seen in dermatologist’s offices. The interesting thing with this particular fungus is that it is a normal skin fungus, we all have it, and for various reasons, grows beyond its borders in some causing a skin rash. It is usually never on the face. Using Selsun Blue over the counter can help, but occasionally you need to see a dermatologist who can prescribe either pills and/or topical prescription medication to get things back to normal.
