Question

I have always wanted a rhinoplasty but does it look like iI would also need other work done, possibly to my chin, to balance my side profile? What would be a realistic result to expect with my nose?

Your intuition is correct. From your profile picture, you have a moderate dorsal hump and a slightly drooping tip on your nose, contrasted by a chin set back from your lower lip. Addressing only the nose in a face with a receding chin is a prevalent pitfall in rhinoplasty. While it may appear to minimize your nose, it accentuates the chin recession, resulting in a lower face that appears both shorter and rounder. Many patients subsequently return for chin surgery six months post-rhinoplasty.

My preferred method for this specific profile pattern involves combining rhinoplasty and minor chin augmentation during a single procedure, all under one anesthetic. Depending on the degree of correction required and whether the issue is purely anterior-posterior, either a sliding genioplasty (to advance the chin a few millimeters) or a silicone or porous polyethylene chin implant can be employed. Both techniques use incisions hidden inside the mouth or under the chin, leaving no visible external scarring, and recovery overlaps with rhinoplasty recovery, so there is no extra downtime.

Nevertheless, I would caution against proceeding with a chin operation based solely on a profile photograph. Several other factors come into play, including the front view, lip projection, neck angle and the occlusion of your teeth. An in-depth consultation with simulated outcomes through digital imaging will let you compare both alternatives before making an informed decision.

Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, you are a great candidate for rhinoplasty. Maneuvers for your surgery would include dorsal hump reduction, tip refinement, nasal tip deprojection, tip derotation , among other maneuvers. A chin implant can be performed at the same time. Make sure you are going to a surgeon with hundreds of long-term before and after pictures on their website with standardized lighting and standardized backgrounds. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

It is very difficult to evaluate your nose based on this single photo; in person evaluation or a series of photos including both profiles, 3/4 and from view would help. Your chin seems to be slightly retruded? Based on this photo rhinoplasty and chin augmentation should be considered. Good luck
