You are wise to ask this question, since any form of healing in the skin makes it susceptible to ultraviolet-stimulated hyperpigmentation (above and beyond normal tanning) that can leave blotchy darkened skin (permanently). So theoretically, any sort of surgical scar, chemical peel, laser treatment, or microneedling should be done only in winter when we're all stuck indoors (at least here in the north country), or only to vampires. But even winter sun can cause these same problems, as can tanning beds or sun lamps or seasonal affective disorder lighting therapy! The reality is that dermapen and all sorts of surgical interventions are done all year round, but with advice to stay out of the sun or use the highest SPF level sunscreens you can find and tolerate. So, if you use proper precautions, proceed year-round with your skin care interventions. But be especially careful in the summertime! Best wishes! Dr. Tholen
