4 weeks post Kybella and chin is worse. Advice for more definition? (photos)

It's too soon to tell what your final results will be. It can take up to 8 weeks for final results after Kybella. There is swelling after Kybella which will slowly resolve over the next several weeks. I hope this helps. 

It takes 6-8 weeks for results with Kybella and most people need a series of treatments. The swelling will gradually resolve within that time. Keep in mind, a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options like Kybella. I recommend Kybella with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is an alternative for contouring the chin, if you're a candidate. It may take longer before you see your final result. If you are still tender in the treated area, you have not completely recovered. Most patients get treated at 8 week intervals and often require 2 to 3 treatments.

It is expensive and requires many sessions to make a difference.  Look no further than the study that was the basis for its FDA approval.  Investigators could offer up to 6 treatment sessions at one month intervals to achieve patient satisfaction.  Approximately 60% of patients requires all 6 sessions and 40% were disappointed with the service.  Your neck is likely still swollen.  Consider neck liposuction.  It is a very reliable method that only requires a single down time and your are likely to actually save money over continuing the Kybella treatment.

Kybella™ can take up to 12 weeks to produce final results, and even then, many people require 2 to 4 treatments sessions to maximize their outcome. Thus, at just four weeks after your first treatment, it’s very unlikely that you’re seeing your full results. You probably still have some swelling as well. I would wait a few more weeks to see if you start noticing an improvement. Good luck.

Thank you for your question and posting your pictures. It is still too early to judge the results from your Kybella injections. It can take 2-3 months to see the full effect. However, it is unusual for a patient to require only one treatment to get satisfactory results. Due to complaints such as yours, I have shifted most of my Kybella consults to micro-liposuction combined with an energy based devices for skin tightening such as J-Plasma by Bovie or FaceTite by InMode. The degree of swelling, bruising and downtime is very similar to Kybella and you have a single procedure versus multiple procedures.I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.

Typically, patients require 2-4 vials of Kybella per treatment session and a total of 2-4 treatments. I always space the treatments out by 2 months or longer. At 4 weeks after the treatment, you may still have some swelling and induration. Give the treatment another 2-4 weeks to work. At that point, it is possible you may need another treatment session.

Hi!  Thank you for your question and the helpful photos.  4 weeks is far too soon to expect results from Kybella. I don't even have my patients come back for a potential second treatment until about 8 weeks have passed. It is too soon to see the full effects of Kybella.  In the next 2-3 months the results will be more visible.  Best results are possible when 4 vials are used, if less is used you will still have improvement but not optimized.   Kybella is a great product but unfortunately too often patients are undertreated and disappointed. Hi JT522,I've Kybella to be very effective but also very vexing.Unlike Botox, there is a lot of swelling and visibel results may not be seen until the 8th week or so. While others see effects as early as 3 weeks, this is not typical. You may now need a follow-up treatment - also the best time for you and your doctor to discuss expectations.All the best, Justin Haroer, M.D.
