Thanks for your question. Performing Vaser Liposuction on areas such as upper/lower abdomen and flanks (love handles) might take from 2 to 3 hours depending on the amount of fat to be removed, type and consistency of fat, previous liposuction procedures on the same areas, type of sedation used (twilight or general). It is usually a very smooth procedure which can be completed without any delays within this time frame. Immediately after completion of the procedure the patient is dressed up with compression garments and remains in recovery for about 2 hours, until safe to leave the premises with an escort. During the recovery time, nurses will administrate IV fluids to the patient, monitoring all vitals, making sure the patient goes to toilet and reviewing with the patient all the post-operative care instructions. In layman terms, if a patient arrives at 8am for Vaser Lipo on upper/lower abdomen and love handles, he/she might be able to go back home generally around 1-2pm. In regards to medium/long term recovery, the patient is required to attend lymphatic drainage massages at our clinic during the following 2 weeks. This speeds up recovery time and decreases swelling. Generally the patient might experience mild soreness (mostly on abdomen area) for up to 5-7 days but is pain free after that. Swelling goes down within 1-2 weeks (a bit longer if Vaser Lipo on lower legs/calves/ankles). Return to mild physical activities (swimming) in 3 weeks. Return to full physical activities (gym, heavy lifting) after 6 weeks. Compression garments need to be worn for 3 weeks full time (24 hours, apart when showering) and 3 weeks part time (12 hours). Hope this helps. Kind Regards, Dr Francesco Fascetti
