Dear Emikathoss,
Most all plastic surgeons prescribe antibiotics through your intravenous line before surgery, and that is the most important dose you can receive. Although the practice is widespread to prescribe oral antibiotics for several days after surgery, it is debatable whether that is necessary or practical. It is certain that a percentage of patients will have die off of the normally good, well-balanced bacteria in the digestive system and allow the yeast there to overgrow. This can also affect the vagina causing a yeast infection there. It is important also to look in your throat to make sure there is not a white overgrowth there called thrush which is also a yeast infection.
It is certainly safe to take a Diflucan tablet and usually a single pill does the trick nine days after surgery. Certainly, you should stop your antibiotics unless you are treating an active infection. If you are simply taking it for prevention, they should be stopped.
Finally, for women who are susceptible to yeast infections, it is a good idea to take probiotics that can be obtained from any grocery store to prevent this from occurring.
I hope this has been helpful to you.
