Is there any side effect to wearing jeans 6 weeks after a tummy tuck?

For my patients having a tummy tuck procedure, I recommend that they wear the surgical garment that we provide, under their clothes for the first three weeks after surgery, 24/7, then an additional three weeks at night only. After the first six weeks post surgery, there are no clothing restrictions, and it is ok to wear jeans. Best of luck!

Dear pampal,I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. Fat viability depends a lot of surgeon technique. The fat has to be placed back into the buttocks as soon as possible so that it has a greater chance of survival. It has to be placed carefully so that not too much fat is placed in only one area.But every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. Your PS knows your postoperative course best and would be better able to advise you on this.  I recommend that you follow his post-operative protocols of waiting four months before wearing jeans. Swelling may persist for several weeks or MONTHS. However, if you have a stable result that has not changed in weeks, then wearing tight jeans is probably not going to disrupt anything or create a dent, other than a temporary one.  Kenneth Hughes, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonMD Los Angeles, CA

Typically right after surgery patients wear loose fitting clothing due to swelling and to accommodate compression garments. This also keep pressure off new incisions and tissues that may have changes in sensation. I would recommend avoiding restrictive or uncomfortable garments, but I'm unsure why four months would be advised. I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon for clarification.
