Can I be a vegan and get BBL surgery?

Thanks for your question!  There is no reason that someone who eats a vegan diet can not have a BBL.  For all patients who have BBL it is important to take in enough calories after the procedure so that you do not lose weight and lose the fat that was transferred to the buttocks.  It will also be important for you to find alternate sources of protein so that you are getting enough protein to heal after the surgery.  Remember always discuss concerns such as this with your board certified plastic surgeon.  Best of luck with your procedure and recovery!

Yes.  I recommend that my patients take 100 grams of protein each day during the healing phase for the first six weeks following surgery. Thank you for your question. It is possible to have a liposuction BBL surgery if you are vegan. It is very important that your hemoglobin levels are high enough before the surgery to do all the liposuction. I am sure they require recent blood work in order to do the surgery. There are certainly different things you can include in your diet to boost your hemoglobin. You can also take iron pills with orange juice to have a good hemoglobin level.

As long as you are healthy, being vegan does not prevent you from having surgery.
In general, you need to be physically healthy and at a stable weight, have realistic expectations, be a non-smoker and your BMI needs to be 30 or less.
l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know.

Hello and thank you for the question. Like all surgery, we want you to be as healthy as possible going into surgery. Vegans are typically very healthy, but you have to keep in mind that such a tight restricted diet needs to be supplemented in order to be healthy enough to have surgery. Make sure you are getting plenty of protein, iron and vitamin B12 in your daily diet. Most vegans tend to not get enough of these and as you probably already know, vitamin B12 is not present in any vegan diet, so supplementation is critical to your every day health. The most common reason patients get rejected or delayed from having surgery is anemia. Blood is made out of protein and iron. You need both to be healthy. Best to you. 

A vegan diet is fine as long as your get the adequate amount of protein and vitamins. Most adults need between 70 - 90 grams of protein daily, which is plenty to heal from BBL surgery. There are many  vegan sources of protein: vegetables, soy milk, nuts and nut butters, lentils and quinoa to name a few. You actually may have others that you favor. My advice is share your concern with your plastic surgeon, and I’m certain he/she will guide to their specific recommendations. All the best.
